Cutting steerer tubes is not hard, slap the guide on and hack away but getting a precise cut so you don't need to run extra spacers because you were off 2mm. Removing a whole stack of integrated housing is also not fun and very time consuming. The Abbey Saw guide is the best one we've used, it wraps around rather then sliding over the steerer and the low profile shape allows you to cut on the bike easily. It has two slots one for a straight blade and another for abrasive blade that you should be using on composite steerers. And it has a nice viewing section, a full uninterrupted view of what you are cutting. You will now look forward to cutting steerers
It will also work in a vice like the traditional so you old skoolers have less to complain about.
